Welcome to The Spartan Diet. My name is Amira Elgan. I’ve been developing The Spartan Diet for 12 years.
I’m neither a chef nor a doctor. I’m a Certified and Holistic Health Coach and Nutritionist. But my pride and joy is to discover and innovate the healthiest and most traditional ways of preparing and cooking food to maximize the nutritional quality of food; to cook with the seasons and learn from the knowledge and wisdom from our ancestors as well as know where ingredients come from and the farmers who grow them. I’m a strong believer in the power of fermentation, which is important not only for the preservation of food in its peak season when it’s abundant but also to eat what we’re meant to eat as part of what’s essential for gut health and immune system health.
I believe in the culinary wisdom of ancient traditions, the knowledge that science makes possible, the lessons from natural agriculture, the signs from Mother Nature and the teachings from my own mother as well as the chefs I’ve had the pleasure of working with and have been inspired by. More than anything, I’m enamored by the many ethnic cuisines and ingredients from around the world. In the past 14 years I’ve been living around the world as a Gastronomad, a digital nomad who travels to where the best food and wine can be found.
Most of all, I’m inspired by the seasons and the food itself. And what brings me joy is creating highly fresh, nutritious, nourishing and delicious meals that bring you and your loved ones vitality and health, as well as happiness and joy.
